Love at First Sight - WriteRoom

WriteroomI had really hoped that Apple's Pages was going to fulfill what is probably my single oldest computer fantasy - a full-screen word processor for GUI operating systems. It didn't, but WriteRoom does.

It was love at first sight for me this morning.

The future of computing is the past.

Interesting - Ulysses does similar magic, but more. But it costs a lot more.

Incidentally, not everyone is as impressed.

Nisus Writer Express has had this feature for about a year, though it runs edge to edge, which makes for some long lines of text. The new Pro version coming apparently offers more control over that. I wrote about the Pro version a little bit on my blog recently: http://richardsona.squarespace.com/main/2007/2/18/omniplan-and-nisus-pro.html
I think NW Express only goes for about $45 these days, and it does a heck of a lot more than Writeroom.

Also SOHO Notes by Chronos has a full-screen editing feature.

Both are great for the reason you mention - they clear away the clutter and let you focus.
