  • IFTF's Future Now draws on research and forecasting at the Institute for the Future, a Palo Alto, CA think tank specializing in the future of technology, health, and organizational change. It began in September 2003.

Who is Future Now?

  • IFTF's Future Now is a group weblog, founded by Institute research director Alex Soojung-Kim Pang in September 2003. Its contributors include IFTF researchers interested in emerging technologies, the future of Asia, and the social and economic impacts on new technologies; IFTF corporate affiliates; academic partners; and members of the Innovation Lab, a Danish futures group with offices in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Great post, especially your reference to some of your previous writings, which I had missed. I passed along links to this to some of the niternal blogs that I manage. In particular, I think of this as another step towards haptic or tactile interfaces, about which we have done some research. Also great to see Engelbart credited again.

The primary issue with more complex interfaces is, of course, that they may be too complex for the task at hand. I have over the years used one and two and three button mice, a mouse with a track-ball, one with a integrated roller, even played with a foot-mouse for a (brief) while. The only one that really stuck was the left-right two button idea. Why? Your view of the history of interfaces gives some intersting insights. Thanks.
